Bolton Wise, Pound Foolish

One way or another, Sam Allardyce’s Bolton Wanderers seem to have lost their Yabba-Dabba-Doo! The latest setback saw them go down 3-1 at the Reebok to Steve Coppell’s impressive Reading side and in the process lose Nolan, Diouf and Hunt to injury – something which they are accustomed to seeing happen to other teams.

The upshot of that is that Bolton are currently 9 points behind Arsenal in 4th place with a massive disparity in goal difference that could not possibly be made up with just three games to go, especially as one of them is against reigning Champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Significantly, Mr Allardyce, who not long ago was trumpeting to the world that, pound for pound, he’s the best manager in the Premiership, was conspicuous by his absence from certain post-match interviews. Leaving the rest of us to consider whether, pound for pound, Steve Coppell would represent much better value. Even if he does carry a lot less weight. Pound for pound, that is.
