Fact and Friction at Middlesbrough
It has been suggested recently that in many respects all is not well behind the scenes at Middlesbrough F.C., with rumours of some senior players losing faith in manager Steve McClaren. But rumours are always rife in football and it is invariably wiser and safer to stick to the facts.
So what are the facts? To begin with, on 7th February 2006, the club languishes in 17th place in the Premiership, perilously close to the relegation zone and its not hard to see why. In the last seven premiership games, they have won only once, drawn twice and lost four times most spectacularly 7-0 to Arsenal at Highbury. During these games they have conceded 18 goals and scored only 7. One fan, driven beyond exasperation to despair, dumped his season ticket in the dug-out and others have taken to chanting McClaren for England for what appear to be entirely selfish reasons.
On a much broader scale there are, apparently, legions of England fans who are anxious that, following deliberations at Soho Square, they do not get their way.
