Spurs Lack Champions League Quality
In a largely unimpressive display, Spurs somehow clung to their hopes of Champions League football next season, inflicting a defeat on struggling West Bromwich Albion which the visitors scarcely deserved.
Throughout the first half, it was the Baggies who looked the more likely side and it was no surprise when they took the lead in the 21st minute, as Curtis Davies leapt to convert a pinpoint free kick from Jonathan Greening, who tormented the Spurs defence throughout the game.
After the interval, it was inevitable that the home side would exert more pressure, but West Brom looked comfortable until some 20 minutes from time when Robbie Keane seized on Carricks pass to snatch an equaliser.
Even at this point, the visitors seemed capable of withstanding a late surge and they dealt with everything Spurs threw at them until goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczaks blunder let in Jermaine Defoe, whom he pulled down to concede the penalty that allowed Robbie Keane to win the game.
